چکیده

An alternative supplementary cementitious material (SCM) based on quarry waste sludge, namely gravel wash mud (GWM) powder, is investigated for its performance in blended cement pastes and concretes. Varying mix designs of concrete mixtures at Ordinary Portland (OPC) substitution degrees from 10 wt% up to 30 by uncalcined calcined GWM powders were examined different curing ages using isothermal calorimetry, strength-based examinations, shrinkage test, carbonation test scanning electron microscopy. The pozzolanic nature the powder was confirmed, however, minor no significant physiochemical contributions early hydration reactions observed. incorporation OPC replacement levels 20 showed an enhancement long-term properties hardened specimens, less drying reduced progression compared control mixtures. Beneficial strength-enhancing effects observed binary mixes classified them as viable proportions SCM-based revalorisation GWM, a product, novel competitive raw resource production, would provide environmental-friendly solution expensive inefficient end-of-life scenario landfills.

Effects of Mud from a Zinc-plating Plant and Zeolite Saturated with Zinc on Portland Cement Hydration and Properties of Hardened Cement Pastes

This work investigates the impact of mud from a zinc-plating plant and zeolite saturated with zinc on early hydration processes of ordinary Portland cement. During the first 48 hours of hydration, the addition of mud significantly affects the cement hydration kinetics. The partial replacement of cement with zeolite saturated with zinc ions, reduces the negative impact of mud on the hydration pr...

Structural studies on hydrating cement pastes

The development of the mesoscopic material structure during the hydration of ordinary Portland cement paste is studied by small-angle neutron scattering. Results on the time dependence of radii of gyration (Guinier region) and exponents (Porod region) are given and discussed. Introduction Building materials like hardened cement are heterogeneous. Their useful properties (as strength, porosity, ...

Investigation of Pozzolanic Reaction in Nanosilica-Cement Blended Pastes Based on Solid-State Kinetic Models and 29Si MAS NMR

The incorporation of pozzolanic materials in concrete has many beneficial effects to enhance the mechanical properties of concrete. The calcium silicate hydrates in cement matrix of concrete increase by pozzolanic reaction of silicates and calcium hydroxide. The fine pozzolanic particles fill spaces between clinker grains, thereby resulting in a denser cement matrix and interfacial transition z...
